Animated Projection Mapping: Joyride
Joyride is a short animation experience in which the viewer is virtually inside a car going on a road trip. As the viewer drives along the California coast, daydreams of the southern and northern areas of the state dance and parallel each other on the car's side windows.
The inspiration for this project came from my personal life. While working on this project, my family was moving from San Diego to The Bay Area. Whenever I thought about the move, I constantly found myself comparing the two areas. Everything from architecture, food, amusement, and weather. On this digital road trip, I take the viewer with me and immerse them in my thought process.
The center screen projects a video of me "driving up to The Bay." Thus, as I am driving, you can see my fantasies of me comparing San Diego (left screen) to The Bay Area (right screen). My childhood dogs are animated throughout the video, acting as symbols of my family and I living and enjoying the different areas. Although change can be scary, I strived to make this project (and my mindset on moving) as positive as I could. I was not moving--I was going on an adventure.
