Movie Poster Re-Design Challenge
In the summer of 2021, I was invited to participate in Bond Entertainment Marketing Agency's Junior Design Challenge. Designers were challenged to re-design at least three posters for Action, Drama, and Indie films from 2010-2020.
Indie: The Peanut Butter Falcon
This charming film felt like a modern-day Tom Sawyer story. I wanted to create graphics-heavy poster with natural imagery and embracing colors that would mimic a book cover.
Indie: Loving Vincent
A letter Vincent van Gogh wrote before his death kicks off the plot of the film, so I wanted to keep the original painterly signature as the title. This image comprises of some of Van Gogh’s most famous paintings The Starry Night, Sunflowers, and one of his many Self Portraits. Vincent was fatefully shot in a field, so I strived to make it appear as if Van Gogh was emerging from the place where his end began.
Action: Captain America - The First Avenger
I wanted to try to stray away from the generic ensemble style that is used for most movie posters, especially for superhero films. I wanted to emphasize the comic books (that are canon in the film) and that this film also falls into the historical fiction genre.
Drama: Bohemian Rhapsody
This film felt like one long music video and concert, which inspired me to mimic the cyan special effects that are used in the real Bohemian Rhapsody music video. Since the film focuses mostly on Freddy Mercury, he is the largest member in the band in his iconic Live Aid outfit. The band’s logo is overlaid on the background.
